In one of Norwood’s art studios, campers will undertake various projects and use their skills to create works that they can take home. Campers will take their artistic skills to the next level with Advanced Art: Painting! Designed with older campers in mind, this class will provide each painter an opportunity to create breath taking artwork using different types of paint, including tempera, acrylic, and watercolor. Campers will have the opportunity to create works from observation and from their own ideas as they explore the concepts of shape, form, and color. Water Color is one of the most popular forms of painting for young artists. Campers will explore this colorful art form and learn different wash and brush techniques while creating landscapes, abstracts, and paintings of everyday objects. Got rhythm? Got music? Fun with Dance offers young dancers an introduction to a variety of dance styles and music. The class will work towards integrating the styles into a group dance routine to be performed at the end of the session. Campers will learn and practice dance styles ranging from Jazz to line dances to popular styles from past decades! This is your camper's opportunity to move and groove to cool music and really have Fun with Dance.
This summer, the world of Latin Dance comes to Norwood! Perfect for campers who enjoy dance and want to try something new, this invigorating class explores traditional and contemporary styles of Latin Dance like Salsa, Samba, and Merengue. If your camper wants as energetic dance class with flair, this is the class they’ve been waiting for!
If you’ve got the energy and the spirit, Summer at Norwood has the Poms! This dance class promotes good posture and proper form with precise rhythm and timing. Learn about formations and transitions, showmanship, creative and visual choreography, cool kick lines, jump skills, and more. Campers will then showcase their routine at a performance at the end of the session!

In this exciting class campers will be taken on a journey to explore the wild and fascinating world that Einstein discovered through his theories about electromagnetism, gravity, space, and time. Campers will participate in fun, easy to understand, hands-on activities that will show how space bends, time travel is possible, and what gravity really looks like!
Animals have a magical learning effect on children, and we intend to make full use of this fascination in this brand new class! Campers will have an up close and personal experience with live animals, animal habitats, fossils and more. Our Animal Time teacher has 40+ years of teaching with animals and you can expect your camper to encounter animals such as a snake, mice, a tarantula, and more! If your child is an animal lover, or simply curious, this class will allow them to see, hear, touch, and learn all about these animals and the natural world they live in.

They will build engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create their own unique design! What a perfect class for aspiring engineers who love to build!

In this follow-up to the popular Intro to Robotics class, campers will use Lego Mindstorm NXT to build and program unique robots that have to solve several problems leading up to the final challenge: beating the other teams in an all-out demolition derby! Using Lego Mindstorm NXT campers will learn the basics of designing, building and programming robots. This enriching class is a perfect way to foster a love of reading. Campers will work independently and as a class to read a myriad of stories and will engage in exciting activities and projects that give life to the stories’ plots, characters, or themes. Fiction, non-fiction, picture book, chapter, and vocabulary- building literature will be used. Watch as books come alive in this enjoyable class.
Learning about money at an early age makes cent$. In this class, young entrepreneurs will increase their knowledge and awareness about money: how to earn it, save it, spend it, grow it, and share it, all while having fun! The class will play financial games, learn about entrepreneurs, both young and old, and even create their own product and devise a business plan.
Can problem-solving in math be both fun and educational? Absolutely! In Math Mania, campers will explore the realm of mathematics through real-life simulations, fun math games, computer programs, and creative manipulatives. This class allows campers to improve their math skills in a fun and entertaining environment.
Academic Support Classes
This class is designed for campers whose primary language is not English. In ESL, campers will develop their English through language immersion and fun activities. The class will work on language comprehension, basic reading, and cultural understanding. No matter what language a camper speaks, they will feel comfortable in this nurturing and informative program. This is a perfect class for campers who want to develop their English language skills while still having a fun summer camp experience.

In Advanced Cooking, culinary exploration is balanced with important basic skills that campers will use for the rest of their lives. In this completely interactive class, young chefs will prepare an entrée, healthy snack or dessert. They will learn many of the basics of cooking, such as how to read and reference a recipe, proper measuring and knife skills, as well as cooking techniques like baking, grilling and sautéing. No “ants on a log” in this class. Some of last year’s favorites included Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Cream Puffs with Fresh Strawberry Cream, Quinoa Tabouleh, Ice Cream Brownie Sandwiches, and Lemon Basil Lemonade. Every camper will get their very own apron to decorate, wear at camp, and take home, as well as a recipe book with everything they’ve made in camp. Developing photographers will gain an awareness of the fundamental elements of shape, form, composition, and light and shadow. Current editing techniques will be explored using Adobe Photoshop Elements to enhance imagery. Young secret agents-in-training will learn an array of spy tactics including decoding, elusive and evasive action, and mastering the art of disguise. They will then put their training into action to solve challenges before embarking on one final mission!
Campers in this hands-on class will journey into the world of transportation as they explore things that move. Campers will not only learn concepts like how planes and helicopters fly and how cars have evolved throughout time, they’ll be able to see concepts come to life through fun activities and demonstrations. Campers will try and design a boat that floats, build and race their own car, and see whose airplane can fly the farthest distance in the air. Get a move on with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

This new class gives them the chance to enter the action-packed world of super heroes. Campers will begin by exploring their favorite classic super heroes and the powers that make them so special. They will get “super hero training” and learn how to eat, dress, and be powerful, just like a super hero. Finally, campers will create their own super hero identity and costume, all while keeping in mind, that “with great power, comes great responsibility.”

Campers will create multiple types of projects throughout the session, representing subjects that may be furry, scaly, ferocious, cuddly, and everything in between. Whether they are making safari animal masks and collages of barnyard inhabitants, or painting pictures of house pets, campers are sure to love this artistic journey through the animal kingdom. In Photography, campers will not only learn about how to use a camera and its features, they will begin to develop an eye for the elements that go into taking a great photo. Developing photographers will gain an awareness of the fundamental elements of shape, form, composition, and light and shadow. Current editing techniques will be explored using Adobe Photoshop Elements to enhance imagery. Each camper will create their own portfolio that will showcase their photographs of landscapes, portraits, and architecture. The cameras will be provided, so all campers need to bring is their creativity.

Summer at Norwood’s Mad Scientists will satisfy their scientific curiosity through hands on experiments, fun science tricks, and enlightening activities. Any camper with an interest in science and a passion for fun is sure to love this popular favorite. What extra materials can be added to make the highest bubble tower? What happens when Mentos are added to soda? Join this class of Mad Scientists to conduct wild experiments!
Looking for hands-on-learning at its best? Look no further. Campers in this class will learn what it means to be a real builder! Using creativity and inventive prowess, campers will engage in various building projects and challenges making use of everything from recycled materials to toothpicks, and everything in between. Working together and on their own, our campers will enjoy building all sorts of wild and wonderful structures and creations that are bound to leave your campers yearning for more!
Campers in this class will discover that the natural world is truly a magical place! Exploring the vast animal kingdom and the awe-inspiring world they live in, our campers will take a journey through the wonders of nature, engaging in various fun activities and projects that will spark the naturalist inside them. These campers will not only enjoy learning about the wide world around them, they will also explore the beauty of Norwood’s campus.
Has your camper ever wondered how tornados are formed, why clouds are white, where lightning comes from, or how rain got in the sky in the first place? Than this is the class for them! Campers will dive into the mysterious and wonderful world of weather. Campers enjoy participating in a variety of activities that teach them about why weather works the way it does.

In this follow-up to the popular Intro to Robotics class, campers will use Lego Mindstorm NXT to build and program unique robots that have to solve several problems leading up to the final challenge: beating the other teams in an all-out demolition derby! Using Lego Mindstorm NXT campers will learn the basics of designing, building and programming robots. They will be challenged to construct robots to succeed at a variety of tasks including completing a maze and surviving an obstacle course. Can your camper build a robot that will survive? In Advanced Cooking, culinary exploration is balanced with important basic skills that campers will use for the rest of their lives. In this completely interactive class, young chefs will prepare an entrée, healthy snack or dessert. They will learn many of the basics of cooking, such as how to read and reference a recipe, proper measuring and knife skills, as well as cooking techniques like baking, grilling and sautéing. No “ants on a log” in this class. Some of last year’s favorites included Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Cream Puffs with Fresh Strawberry Cream, Quinoa Tabouleh, Ice Cream Brownie Sandwiches, and Lemon Basil Lemonade. In this class, campers will explore different themes each day of the session and participate in a wide range of fun activities. Daily themes may include creative concepts like international fun, super science day, and sports extravaganza, and activities may include everything from arts and crafts and computer time to gym games and cooking.
