Session 1
Adventure Camp 1

Summer at Norwood’s Adventure Camp provides a mix of environmental education and exposure to a wide array of adventure-based activities as campers travel by bus with their team or pod. (maximum of 12 per pod).  Campers will explore various local parks and natural landmarks while hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, rock climbing and helping to evaluate the health of local streams.  In addition to providing learning opportunities, Adventure Camp presents campers with a chance to explore and stretch their comfort zone through a variety of ropes course activities to develop problem-solving and leadership skills, all while building team unity.

Summer at Norwood hires only top-notch certified instructors to lead its Adventure Camp, and partners with Outdoor Excursions, Inc., the Washington area’s leading white water outfitter.

Special Overnights This Year!

Session 1 and Session 2

Adventure 1 campers will explore Cunningham Falls State Park before traveling to their campsite to spend one night in Boonsboro, MD.  Campers will spend the next day kayaking down Antietam Creek before heading back to Norwood.

Adventure 2 campers will have a two night excursion to Cooper’s Rock, WV for 3 days of rock climbing at one of the East Coast’s premiere climbing locations.

Session 3

Adventure 1 campers will set sail on a 55-foot sailboat into the Chesapeake Bay with Living Classroom Foundation where they will learn about sailing and bay ecology.  They will camp for one night on an island in the bay.

Adventure 2 campers will spend three days (two nights) on Assateague Island, MD enjoying kayaking, surfing, and learning about this beautifully wild space in Maryland.

Please note -- A detailed schedule (subject to change due to bad weather) and a supply list are provided at the beginning of each session.  Please also complete all medical and outfitter risk and release forms, as your registration is NOT complete without them!

Campers should be dropped off at Norwood each day of camp, including the first day.  Adventure groups will then leave from Norwood to go to their daily destinations.

Sessions 2 and 4 – Adventure II campers will set sail on a 55 foot sail boat to an island in the Chesapeake Bay where they will camp, learn about sailing, and research the ecology of Maryland’s greatest natural resource.
